The craft work done by the women embroiders of Bajju is managed by the Urmul Seemant , a voluntary agency that works with women in Kolayat tehsil of Bikaner district, on the border with Pakistan. Many of the women are refugees from the 1971 war, and have now settled in villages around Bajju on the lands irrigated by the Indira Gandhi canal. Canal irrigation has not yet developed in the area, since frequent dust storms clog the watercourses, making a kharif crop impossible. There is little, labour available, and many families subsist entirely on their earnings from this craft. The emphasis has been on building capacity of these women to manage their own collective, since they are tied into a very feudal and patriarchal system challenge is much more difficult but not impossible.

Bajju embroidery is famous for its quality and range of designs that it produces on Garments, soft furnishings and bags.
