Rampur is known for its violin and oud making artisans. Presently only one artisan remains and actively pursues the art of making oud, an instrument that probably dates back thousands of years. Interestingly, Rampur is the only place India that one can buy an oud from.
Oud is a musical instrument shaped in the form of a pear. It is stringed and produces a sound that is somewhat similar to that of the sarod.
