One of the most significant facets of Islamic culture is calligraphy, the practise of fancy lettering in a script. Various artefacts depict the Arabic-Persian inscriptions, which were artistically combined with flora-fauna patterns to decorate artifacts. With the arrival of the Mughal rule, this art form was introduced to India. Many monuments and old architecture from Delhi such as the Qutub Minar and Humanyu’s Tomb displays stone calligraphy.

In old Delhi a family still continues engraving stones for the graves in calligraphy. The art of engraving gravestones or Kunda karma is a painstaking task and requires immense patience and endurance.
