The museum houses collections of art and objects of archeological interest from India. It has a strong collection of Indian paintings, sculptures, terracotta, textiles, coins.
Its collection of miniatures dates from 1100 AD to 1800 AD and are representative of various schools and periods.
Sculptures mostly belong to the Banaras region.
The textile section is more recently developed and it has a fine collection of Banaras and other brocades, Kashmiri shawls, and Sanganeri Calico prints, literary materials, etc.
Other sections include bronze images, terracottas, beads, seals, sealings, pottery, Gujarati and Palmas, Rajasthani, Mughal, Pahari folk, company and contemporary paintings, metal crafts, ivory, jade, jewellery.
