Weavers of Anakaputhur, a southern suburb of Chennai, have successfully experimented with aloe vera (‘kaththazhai’) fibre to create clothing material and sarees.

Members of the Anakaputhur Jute Weavers Association on Wednesday said it was in continuation of their experiments with different natural fibres since the last quarter of 2007. They had experimented with non-conventional fibres such as jute, banana, pineapple and bamboo.
